Two kit launches in, something had changed.
Our home and away films had caught the attention of the wider team at Stockport County, and the club approached GROFU to collaborate directly on the third and final launch.
The third shirt gave us plenty to play with. Bright orange. Bold. Impossible to ignore. After the dark, monochromatic world of the away campaign, we had the chance to switch things up again and give the final film an identity every bit as distinctive as the kit itself.
Then came Clint Boon.
As a member of Inspiral Carpets and a familiar face in North West music and culture, Clint opened up a much bigger creative idea. Better still, we could put the actual organ he uses with the band at the centre of the film.
That’s where Legends took shape.
Music legends. County legends. Current players. Local personalities. Different generations, all brought together by Stockport.
The setting needed the same sense of place without reaching for the obvious football backdrop. Stockport’s red brick mills gave us exactly that. Industrial, instantly recognisable and packed with character, they gave us a world to build around Clint, his organ and the new kit.
Against all that brick, texture and history, the orange shirt would do exactly what we wanted it to do.
Stand out.
The idea was getting bigger. The time we had to make it happen wasn’t.
We had less than a week before the shoot, and the creative needed to evolve quickly around Stockport County’s own photography campaign, limited access to our mill location and the availability of everyone involved.
Former County players had already been part of our thinking. They fitted naturally into Legends: familiar faces representing different chapters of the club’s history and players supporters still had genuine affection for.
Then another opportunity opened up.
County was shooting its official photography campaign in an adjoining mill space, which meant current first-team players could cross over and become part of our film too.
Suddenly, Clint Boon, former County players, current players and Stockport-based creator Matty Goodvibes were all sharing the same creative world.
Past. Present. Football. Music. Local culture.
The idea had just levelled up. So had the logistics.
Some of the players were only available for short windows, access to the location was limited and there was no time to figure things out once the cameras started rolling.
Pre-production became everything.
We storyboarded the film down to individual shots and moments, giving the crew a clear blueprint and allowing us to move as soon as each person became available. Curveballs came our way, but the structure was already there. We could adapt without losing the film we’d set out to make.
Visually, restraint was off the table.
The away campaign had been dark, monochromatic and controlled. The third kit called for saturation, movement, rhythm and personality. We pushed all four.
Bright orange cuts through the industrial textures of the mill, while fast-paced editing and heightened visuals push the film towards music promo territory. It gave the third shirt its own world and kept one rule running through the entire campaign: no two kit films should feel the same.
And with Clint and his organ sitting at the centre of the creative, the soundtrack had to earn its place too.
A generic library track was never going to cut it.
We created the music in-house, developing the soundtrack, sound design and edit together so every beat could work with the movement on screen. Instead of making the pictures fit an existing track, we could build the sound around the film itself.
The result was louder, faster and packed with personality.
Exactly what the shirt called for.
By the final launch, the campaign had taken on three completely different creative identities.
Our home film was warm, playful and family-focused, combining live action with an AI-assisted workflow to tell a story about the next generation of County supporters.
For the away shirt, we went darker. Monochromatic, cinematic and driven by the hours of work nobody sees.
Then came a complete explosion of colour. The third film brought Stockport culture, personality and footballing history together in a saturated, music-driven celebration packed with energy.
Each launch demanded a different idea, visual language and production approach, all delivered against seriously tight timeframes.
More importantly, our relationship with Stockport County had evolved along the way. GROFU started the campaign creating content around our sponsorship and finished it collaborating directly with the club on the creative.
